The room: spectacular. The fashions: stunning. The food: delectable. The auction items: must-have. The cause: worthy. The goal: shattered.
On October 28th, 2010 over 500 brides, grooms, and members of the wedding community gathered at the impeccable Four Seasons Hotel Seattle to come together for two reasons: to get amazing deals on gorgeous wedding goods and services and to raise money to grant wishes for Stage IV metastatic breast cancer patients. Here at Get Hitched Give Hope we’ve always set our sights high and our goals just beyond reach, but this year, with the help of some amazing sponsors and wonderful guests we’ve exceeded this goal. By the end of the evening, YOU came together to raise $64,000 to grant wishes for those to whom the cure can’t come soon enough. And we’re still counting.
The decor was a fabulous collaboration, all of it donated by our wonderful Event Sponsors! The Four Seasons Seattle was the one-of-a-kind venue, also providing the delicious food and cocktails. Luxurious linens, draping, and lounge furniture were provided by Aria Style. Dazzling custom paper art installations were provided by Celeste Cooning. Ethereal florals for the stage area were created by Flora Nova and Floressence. Dramatic, large-scale arrangements for the buffets, as well as cocktail table arrangements in our signature color, were designed by Christopher Flowers. Audio-visuals and lighting were expertly provided by Swank. Signage and programs were designed by Dolce Design. Glowing votive candles were provided by glassybaby. Custom gobos projecting the GHGH logo were provided by Hardcastle Entertainment. Guests were elegantly accommodated by Coat Check Complete. Apparition Chairs were provided by Stellar Event Rentals, and the stage and bistro tables were provided by AA Party Rentals. Helping us get the word out, and giving away copies of their gorgeous wedding magazines, was Seattle Metropolitan Bride & Groom! All of it was magnificently captured by La Vie Photography!
The dessert table was incredible! Overflowing with scrumptious treats from Tallant House and Confection Concoctions, cupcakes from The Radical Cupcake, and an amazing display cake from New Renaissance Cakes. All of it was displayed on beautiful cake stands from Clara French Ceramique and adorably labelled with dainty signs by Heathoriginal.
Our six models were gorgeously dressed in gowns from La Belle Reve. Coiffed and made up by Bellatrix Studio, and perfectly tanned by Divine Tan, they were a vision as they strolled through the crowd and posed on stage.
All through the evening, as the Silent Auction sections closed one by one, excitement for the Live Auction bubbled and built and when it was finally time to start raising those numbers people were in the mood to give, give, give! We had truly amazing packages available this year and there was something for everyone. Our emcees, Brooke and Kel from MOVin’ 92.5, were on fire, getting the crowd into the spirit and highlighting each of the incredible items up for bid!
A big, big hit again this year was the super-fun flip-book booth from Flipped Out Productions. All night long, groups of folks stepped into their booth, donned silly costumes and hammed it up for the camera. Minutes later they had awesome little flip-books to take home and share! Just as entertaining was the photo booth from 321 Foto, where you could be just as goofy or as classy as you wanna be, and have a beautiful photo to keep.
And just in case there weren’t enough tempting things to bid on in the auctions, we also had a dozen fantastic raffle items donated by our vendors and other sponsors!
The Jason Parker Quartet performed kickin’ live jazz to serenade the auction crowd, and Silverwood Music Ensembles played beautiful, classical chamber music in the cocktail lounge while dancers from The Loft Seattle entertained on the dance floor. DJ Leslie of Seattle Parties rocked the house with awesome tunes!
One of the very special moments of the evening was a personal story from Michele Hyra, a breast cancer survivor. Michele shared her experience of living with the difficulties of surgery and chemotherapy, and the uncertainty and anxiety of being a mother while dealing with a Stage IV breast cancer diagnosis. She reminded us all just how important and meaningful the opportunity to create final memories with one’s family can be for someone who is facing a terminal diagnosis. Brenda Chovanak, from our charity, The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, spoke about how wishes are granted, how many dollars are needed to grant each wish, and to thank everyone for their generosity. It was an inspiring and touching moment that we will all remember.
Finally, the Live Auction concluded with the Fund-A-Need portion, where bidders who simply wanted to help even more could raise their number and give at various levels. It absolutely warmed our hearts to see the outpouring of generosity, helping us grant as many wishes as possible!
The big finale to the whole night was when we were able to announce that we had reached and exceeded our goal, raising over $64,000!!! The excitement was uproarious, and there were more than a few tears of relief and joy!!
