Girly Girl Wines has generously contributed to Get Hitched Give Hope this year and we are thrilled to have them as one of our Diamond Sponsors. I absolutely love their adorable & stylish bottles, plus the wine is tasty too! They are the official wine sponsor of our main event so be sure to enjoy a glass or two at Get Hitched Give Hope on October 27th!
Karen, tell us about your job and how you got started…
I am the Director of Sales and Marketing forWashingtonWine and Beverage Company (WWBC). I started working for WWBC in 2001 when I graduated from UW. I worked my way up from the order desk, through accounting and now into sales. I got involved in the wine business because my family started up Silver Lake Winery in 1987 and I wanted to work within the family business.
In 2007, I saw a need for a female oriented, ultra-premium wine brand and so I created Girly Girl Wines as a business plan while obtaining my MBA atSeattleUniversity. I entered it into their 2008 Business Plan Competition and won the competition with the brand. With the success of Girly Girl Wines while at Seattle U, I was able to start it up within Washington Wine and Beverage Co.
What do you love most about your work?
I love that I started something and I get to see it through. I love that I have created an award winning wine brand, with a fun label that gives back to women causes. Last year alone, we donated over $20,000 in product and cash to women causes and it was our first year in business.
Tell us about your involvement with Get Hitched Give Hope…
I was drawn to the fact that you guys are raising money for terminally ill women, I haven’t see a non-profit like this before and it struck home.
We are sponsoring the wine for the event this year as well as donating to the auction (silent) lot and swag bags. Everyone who purchases a swag bag ticket will get a bottle of Girly Girl Wine to take home and enjoy!
What makes your company stand out in the ever growing wine industry?
We are currently the only ultra-premium wine brand that targets directly toward women while giving back to women causes. This October alone, we are donating $1 per bottle of Girly Girl Wine to Breast Cancer Awareness with our Drink Pink Campaign in Grocery Stores and Restaurants nationally. We will most likely be doing the same thing this February for the Go Red campaign for the Heart Association since Heart Disease is the leading killer among women and a lot of us don’t know that.
Thanks Karen! Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams, you’d be amazed on what you can actually accomplish.
How can we stay in touch?
