You may remember Lisa’s story: On February 14th, 2009 Get Hitched Give Hope had the privilege of photographing Lisa’s dream wedding. Her wish was for the wedding she never had – and that is exactly what she received. She was able to celebrate life, her love for her husband of 20+ years, and share it with all of her friends, family, and three beautiful daughters.
On January 6th, 2010 Lisa lost her battle with cancer. Here is the message we received: “Last night at 11:45, Lisa lost her battle with Breast Cancer. A lot of you were instrumental in making her wish come true last year and gave her a wedding on Valentines day. I want to thank you so much for being a part of her life. It may have been for a short time but it meant the world to her. Thank you for what you do and for who you are.”
Here are a few images from the day, and if you would like to see the story as originally published click HERE or HERE.
In case you missed it on Facebook, here is the fabulous video by Leaning Wolf Productions of GHGH 2009! We love the way the video captures the fun, excitement, and caring generosity of the evening. Everyone had a fantastic time, and you can really see it. Take a look, and be sure to check out Leaning Wolf’s other projects, too!
With the current tough economic times, it can feel pretty painful to spend money on your wedding. You want to hire your favorite vendors, but the prices feel out of reach. So what if we told you that at last year’s Get Hitched, Give Hope, one bride scored her wedding photography at 60% off retail price, paying just $1,120 for a wedding photography package that normally costs $2,800? And another bride got DJ services at 40% off…instead of paying $1,2000 for her DJ, she paid $720. And another one saved 40% on her invitations? And all of these deals were from some of Seattle’s best wedding vendors.
Yep, brides and grooms got some truly outstanding bargains. Auctions are like that sometimes. At Get Hitched, Give Hope, you can walk away with things you need for your wedding anyway, and you get to feel great about every dollar you spend knowing it’s going to such a good cause. So spend some time reading about all the vendors whose goods will be available at the event, mark your calendars for October 29th, and buy your tickets here to get in on the great deals! If you’ve ever been a guest at someone’s wedding or event, you know how much ambiance live music adds. It can swankify, funkify, jazzify, and polish it. (Ha! Bet you thought I was going to say another word with “-ify” on it, eh? My thesaurus didn’t have any more, otherwise I woulda!) I’d like to introduce to you one of our favorite jazz ensembles. They’re fun to watch, their sounds are refreshing, they’re totally nice guys, and you KNOW it’s a party when they’re there! Meet Jason of the Jason Parker Quartet.
What do you do?
We offer professional live music for ceremonies and receptions. Jazz, classical, R&B and more.
How long have you been in the industry?
8 years
What prompted you to open this lovely business of yours?
I love sharing people’s special days with them, and bringing just the right musical ambiance to complement the event.
What is your favorite product or service that you offer?
Jazz, baby!
What do you like to say makes you unique from others in your industry? Why do clients choose your services/products?
We are a working jazz band, not just a “wedding band”, and our clients always comment on how joyous and celebratory our performances are. We really bring it!
You guys crack me up. What is your favorite thing about weddings? Why do you love doing what you do?
I love that everyone is happy and celebrating love. I wish the whole world was like that.
You and me both! Why are you excited to be a part of GHGH?
We love all the people involved, from the charity to the organizers to the vendors to the attendees. And the cake.
Glad we came before your love of the cake, though we love the cake too! How are you participating in the event?
We are playing live music and auctioning off an hour of our music.
Thanks, Jason, for taking the time to answer a few questions for our blog! Funny little tidbit about Jason? He says, “I’m a sucker for old, sappy love songs.” Well heck, if you were a musician who didn’t love happy, celebratory events, and those sappy songs, we’d have a problem, wouldn’t we? Can’t wait to hear your music in October, friend!
Did you know that this year’s event is on Thursday October 29th?? Tickets are on sale and they are going quickly! We have space for only about 350 people and hope to fill the space with couples planning their wedding and of course their loving friends & family! Start shopping for your party clothes now – this is going to be SUCH a fun event!
It seems like all good ideas are hatched over a bottle of wine. In late 2007 a few of us wedding gals were sharing a bottle (or two) and a lightbulb materialized above our heads–”Wouldn’t it be great if we could make an event that would bring members of the local wedding community together AND raise money for a great cause?” It was a brand new idea–there was nothing like it in our area–and that’s how Get Hitched, Give Hope came about.
On October 23rd of 2008 we had our first event. It was a big fun swanky party where brides bid on things they needed for their weddings (flowers, cakes, photography, DJs, etc.) and helped us raise $30,000 for an incredible charity called the Making Memories Foundation. The brides got some incredible deals–up to 70% off retail prices from some of Seattle’s most incredible wedding vendors. (Ridiculous, right?!?)
Get Hitched, Give Hope is a 501(c)3 organization, and we maximize our fundraising by working on a 100% volunteer basis. Every auction item, raffle prize, and hour of behind-the-scenes work is donated by generous members of the wedding community. This year’s event is on October 29th at the amazing Dome Room at the Acrtic Club Hotel. Buy your tickets today and we’ll see you there!
